"What's the chance of me coming down
with a major disease or illness? I'm too young for something like that to
happen. If I get really sick, I guess I could go to the student health center.
But, if I had to go to the hospital I don't know how it would be paid
for." |

College Student
Student Health Insurance
Student health insurance plans are less expensive
than COBRA health insurance or individual coverage plans.
Most colleges offer a student health insurance plan. Although it may be less
expensive than COBRA health insurance or
individual coverage, make sure that the scope of coverage is adequate for your
needs. Be sure to ask the following questions when learning about your
colleges student health insurance
program:
- Is the plan a health maintenance organization (HMO), or can you use
any provider?
- Does the plan cover emergency room visits without
prior approval?
- What steps must be taken to ensure coverage if
there's an emergency?
- What about coverage on vacation?
- Can you get coverage during the summer break even
if you're not taking classes?
- Does the plan make the most efficient treatment
facilities in the college community accessible?
- What services are offered free or at low cost in a
campus health clinic?
- What pre-existing conditions are excluded?
