STEP 3: EVALUATE YOUR OPTIONS.
Once you have identified the type of health coverage
you want, you are ready to research and compare some health plan products. When
selecting a health plan that will meet your needs, keep in mind the following
factors.
The overall value of each
planDoes it provide the coverage you need at an affordable
price?
Choice of health care providers and
servicesDoes it provide you with the health care providers you
want to visit?
Stability and quality of company
serviceIs the health insurer a stable company with a reputation
for quality customer service? Is the health insurer approved to sell health
insurance in Alabama?
REMEMBER: The most important service to be
covered is hospitalization. If you are not covered for hospital care, then one
sickness could cost you thousands of dollars, even hundreds of thousands of
dollars.
Try to compare and evaluate two to three potential
health plan options. This can seem like an overwhelming process but it does not
have to be. Use this Choosing a Health Plan Checklist to help you organize your
evaluation process.
